The end of a long legal drama. This Friday, November 8, 2024, the SNCF was acquitted by the Paris Court of Appeal, almost two years after the death of Neko, a cat crushed by a TGV on January 2, 2023 at Montparnasse station, we learned South West.

No appeal in cassation

During a first hearing held on June 19, 2023, the railway company was sentenced for “negligence” to a fine of 1,000 euros and to pay 2,000 euros in damages to the two owners of the cat.

After appealing, SNCF was acquitted by the Paris Court of Appeal. Me Fabrice Bacquet, the lawyer for the two women owners of the cat, confirmed to our colleagues that he could not be appealed to cassation.

On January 2, 2023, Neko had escaped from his owner's bag and took refuge under the TGV. Despite the young woman's repeated requests, the SNCF refused to delay the departure of the train and the cat was cut in two. The company assured “that it had followed the security protocol”. But this story sparked a wave of emotions on social networks.
