Dakar, June 14 (APS) – The Minister of Infrastructure and Land and Air Transport, Malick Ndiaye, warned public transport operators against increasing passenger fares for interior regions during this period of tabaski, urging them to strictly respect the regulations.

”In this period of big departures for the Tabaski holidays, the services of the ministries responsible for Land Transport and Commerce have noted an exaggerated increase in the prices charged for intercity passenger travel,” he declared.

In a press release sent to the APS, the minister recalls that the prices of public road passenger transport are governed by regulations in force.

Thus, Malick Ndiaye informs ”users that no increase in prices has been discussed, much less agreed with the operators” and consequently, ”any unilateral increase in prices would be the sole responsibility of the operators or managers of the bus stations”.

According to him, the authors of this increase in the price of transport tickets incur sanctions in accordance with the regulations in force.

”Any increase in rates would constitute a violation of the regulations on road transport rates and Law No. 2021-25 of April 12, 2021 on prices, competition and economic litigation,” warns Mr. Ndiaye.

He urges public transport operators to ensure strict enforcement of fare regulations.

Otherwise, he adds, the guardianship “reserves the right to impose, against any offender, the sanctions provided for by the laws and regulations in force”.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Land and Air Transport asks the contracting authorities and the Executive Council of Urban Transport of Dakar (CETUD) to “closely monitor the real pricing practices during this holiday period to facilitate the travel of citizens who wish to join their relatives”.

Malick Ndiaye invites the Security Forces, responsible for road control, to “strictly ensure compliance with current rates”.
