The investitures of the New Popular Front did not please everyone. In Savoie, the boss of the PS François Chemin, also mayor of Fourneaux in Maurienne, announced this Friday that he was leaving his position within the party to protest against the inauguration of Daniel Ibanez in the 3rd district. According to him, the choice of this historical figure of the fight against Lyon-Turin to lead the legislative battle on the left in Maurienne is not the right one.

“He cannot embody the union of the left”

We agreed locally that we should not have a candidacy that could be identified as anti-Lyon-Turin and locally, all the partners agreed.“, explains François Chemin to France Bleu Pays de Savoie. “So we left calm on this subject and falteringly, during the night, we were told that nationally, a candidate was being imposed on us who had such firm, so divisive positions, that in our opinion he could not embody the union of the LEFT. We waved the red flag several times and LFI, well run by certain members who know Maurienne well having come to demonstrate there several times, made a point of presenting someone from this constituency. But to create union, there is no need for disunity. Today, some of the voters who voted for Raphaël Gluksmann feel like orphans and will not vote for the LFI candidacy.

For François Chemin, by making this choice, the Parisian authorities are definitively drawing a line under this constituency. He also recalls that the candidacy of Daniel Ibanez during the last European elections gathered fewer voters than that of the PS. “The Lyon-Turin project cannot be a campaign item, it is a position of principle for them but that does not interest average voters“, continues the mayor of Fourneaux. He assures that he will support the candidacy of Pascale Martinot (PS) in the 2nd constituency of Savoie. On the other constituencies, the rebel Jean-Francois Coulomme, outgoing deputy, is candidate for his succession in the 4th. The first returns to the PCF with Christel Granata, already a candidate against Marina Ferrari in 2022.
