Swiss sport shines in Rome with athletics and soon it will also be in Germany thanks to the national football team. Several indicators are positive: the number of Swiss players who have shone in the main European championships, a close-knit and experienced technical staff as well as a group of quality young players. The ambition is not only to qualify for the round of 16, but this time to go further. Let’s try to motivate this optimism.

In detail, let’s first recall the magnificent season of Manchester City, Bayer Leverkusen and Inter Milan, all national champions with our players Manuel Akanji, Granit Xhaka and Yann Sommer as absolute protagonists. Let us then note the significant presence of around ten other Swiss players in teams which have obtained very good results this season. We can cite Bologna with Remo Freuler, Michel Aebischer and Dan Ndoye, Newcastle with an impeccable Fabian Schär, Dortmund finalist of the Champions League with Gregor Köbel in goal. Ricardo Rodriguez is the captain of Torino, Vincent Sierro that of Toulouse and Silvan Widmer is also the captain of Mainz. Another subject that we like to highlight: the very promising season of young Ruben Vargas, Zeki Amdouni and Noah Okafor, often decisive when used.
