“France is not backing down, because that would amount to giving up in the face of threats of violence and anti-Semitism.“It is in these terms that the Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, justified his choice not to “not accept relocation” of the Football match between France and Israel.
The meeting, 5th day of the Nations League, is therefore held at the Stade de France on November 14. “At my request, the Prefect of Police, Laurent Nuñez is making the necessary security arrangements for this match to take place at the Stade de France, as usual“, added the minister.
During a press conference in Marseille, this Friday, November 8, Bruno Retailleau added: “Let's stop going backwards, let's stop giving up“, evoking a “fundamental reason“, that of organizing and seeing it unfold, “in the French Republic“, a football match,”even if it’s France-Israel“, “under normal conditions.”The republican order is first and foremost that“, affirmed the Minister of the Interior.
Through his publication and his speech, the Minister of the Interior responds in particular to Julien Odoul, deputy for Yonne and spokesperson for the National Rally, had submitted the idea that the meeting be held in Corsica. “Faced with the proven risk of harm to public security, particularly in Seine-Saint-Denis, in a department where certain neighborhoods are blighted by Islamism and contaminated by hatred of Jews, I wanted to submit to you the proposal to relocate the France-Israel match in Corsica”had notably underlined the MP in a letter to the president of the French Football Federation.
On October 10, during the 3rd day of the League of Nations, the Israel-France match, won 4-1 by the Blues, was played on neutral ground in Budapest (Hungary). Since the start of the war in the Middle East, the selection of the Hebrew State no longer welcomes its adversaries on Israeli territory. Israel has played seven of its nine international matches in Hungary.
In September, Belgium, which hosted Israel on the first day of the League of Nations, chose to relocate this match to Debrecen (Hungary), after the refusal of several Belgian cities to host the meeting, fearing excesses.
