Forecasts in terms of attendance at the Normandy Regional Council, for the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of D-Day, were counting on one million visitors for the first week of June 2024. The figures which have just been revealed by Calvados Tourism even go a little beyond.

383,000 visitors counted on June 6

For the period from June 1 to June 8, 2024 inclusive, i.e. a total of eight nights, 1,050,000 nights were recorded, representing an increase of 68% compared to the same period in 2023.

“More than a million overnight stays were recorded for the first week of June alone, according to a Flux Vision Orange study from the Calvados Attractiveness agency”, reports the body in charge of promoting the department in terms of tourism. 383,000 visitors were counted for the day of June 6 alone.

Americans are the most numerous

Foreign visitors are the most numerous: 65%. And in the list of the most represented nationalities, it is the Americans who find themselves on the first step of the podium. 28% of foreign visitors arrived from UNITED STATESfollowed by United Kingdom (21%),Germany (9%) and The Netherlands (8%).

For Calvados Tourisme, all of these figures are comparable to those of 2019, during the 75th anniversary of the Landing.
