Do you have a green thumb? So, from Saturday November 9 to Sunday November 17, 2024, you are in for a treat! The City of Valencia (Drome) organise the 2nd edition of “, it’s growing!”. More than a week will be dedicated to the tree with activities and fun and educational activities to enjoy as a family.

This event aims to associate the people of Valentin with the theme of the tree to raise their awareness and thus be able to act together.

Nearly 9,800 trees have already been planted in Valencia and the city will have 12,000 in 2026, instead of 10,000 initially planned when the Trees plan was launched.

To create islands of freshness, improve the living environment and strengthen its attractiveness, the City of Valencia is massively greening its streets, boulevards, squares and schoolyards.

Massive revegetation

Thus, after having absorbed the former largest heat island in the city, Place Dunkerque, and de-waterproofing the courtyards of the Archimbaud, Lagrange and Rigaud schools, it is investing to offer everyone peaceful and green pedestrian squares and streets in the city center. city: greened Place des Ormeaux, redevelopment of Place de la Liberté in progress, greening of Place St-Jean and the boulevards to come.

Work is also currently taking place at rue de la Manutention to green the northeast sidewalk with the planting of 215 m² of plant beds and to replace the palm trees on Place Aristide-Briand with a species more resistant to palm butterfly.

In November, it will be the turn of Place Saint-Jean with the planting of five trees and flower beds (church square and intersection with rue Madier-de-Montjau).

Participatory planting in neighborhoods

Furthermore, every winter, the City of Valencia invites residents to participatory planting operations of mini-forestation in the different neighborhoods, in order to cool the city.

Since the start of the Trees plan, seven sites have hosted the planting of mini-forests, such as the Baby Forest, which symbolizes the birth of new little Valentinois.

After a first Baby Forest at the Polygone park in 2022 and a 2nd in the Marcel-Paul park in Valensolles in 2023, it is the Jean-Perdrix park which will host the 3rd, with a participatory planting planned for November 13.
