The France team faced Israel this Thursday evening for the Euro 2025 qualifiers at the Palais des Sports in Caen-la-Mer. And even deprived of its two Normans (Marine Johannes and Dominique Malonga), the French team was able to count on a public impatient to find these French women who made them dream all summer of the Paris Olympic Games.
“We come to support our favorite team, the Bleuesexplains Virginie who came with her family from Lion-sur-Mer. We didn't miss a single match this summer, adds her neighbor Pauline, and we were fans of all the players on the team. They had a magnificent tournament. So we are very happy to be able to see them in Caen.”
“I got Gabby Williams' autograph Clarisse proudly announces, showing her autographed French team T-shirt. I wanted the one of Céline Dumerc but she passed by and didn't see us but I took a photo with Gabby Williams and Anna Tadic. Gabby Williams is the one I wanted the most because I admire her and she impressed me during the Olympics.” Clarisse came from Le Havre with her father Hugo to prolong the magic of the Olympic Games. “We are passionate, we went to see the Olympics relate Hugo. We had only seen the boys, now we are happy to see the girls up close.”
On the floor, France quickly made the difference in a Palais des Sports shrouded in tricolor flags. Time to warm up and the Olympic vice-champions were already 23 pts ahead at half-time (47-24). “It’s strong, especially on the counterattacksadmires young Simon in the aisles. “France is in control of its match, adds Stéphane, from Eterville, just behind him. We see that there is a great level of play. They are really athletes. Physically, we see that it holds up (laughing).”
The match is one-sided and the twelve French women will all score. “There is not too much suspense, concedes Soizig, while the Blues are around 40 pts ahead at the end of the 3rd quarter (71-32). It's impressive. We don't have the opportunity to see the France team every day. What impresses is the world, the atmosphere. And then the players, obviously.”
The Blues are quietly continuing their path in these Euro 2025 qualifiers with this 3rd success in as many days. They were also able to verify in this Palais des Sports in Caen-la-Mer that their popularity with the public has not declined.
