In the early 90s, Philippe Martina young film producer, regularly attends the Châtelet theater. He then discovered opera and understood what the success of the shows owed to Stéphane Lissnerthe director of the Châtelet, who is driven by an ambition and a sense of modernity that is quite unique in the world of opera.
Three decades later, Philippe Martin retraces his exceptional career with Stéphane Lissner, since after the Châtelet, Stéphane Lissner directed the Aix en Provence festival, La Scala in Milan, the Paris Opera, the San Carlo in Naples, but also the Bouffes du Nord.
This book is an opportunity to explore the performing arts of the last forty years: Daniel Baremboim, Pierre Boulez, Peter Brook, Luc Bondy, Patrice Chéreau, Pina Baush, Klaus-Mikaël Gruber, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, Claude Régy and many other artists are mentioned in these pages, but also lesser-known personalities without whom the history of contemporary opera would not be quite the same.
Philippe Martin is a film producer. He created Les Films Pelléas in 1990 which has since produced around a hundred films. From 2016 to 2021, Philippe Martin was in charge of the artistic direction of the 3e Scène, the digital platform of the Paris National Opera. He is the author of two books Mag Bodard, portrait of a producer (The Green Tower, 2013), Pierre Chevalier, the man of possibilities (Arte éditions/Séguier, 2017).
Philippe Martin produced the series Stéphane Lissner, fragments of a portrait of 4x1h30 for France Musique in July 2023, available on francemusique.fr and the Radio France application.
