Because the concern is real on the side of local communities. In the 2025 finance bill (PLF), the State plans almost 11 billion euros in savings imposed on local authorities. Budget cuts such that some elected officials are worried about maintaining the quality of their public services.

Since the Prime Minister's announcement, many local elected officials have been up in arms against this looming austerity cure, including the mayor of Toulouse Jean-Luc Moudenc. Already, on October 17, in the council of the Metropolis, he was moved “financial shock of a magnitude never before experienced”. He explained:

As it stands, the finance bill suggests a budget of unprecedented harshness. The financial shock that it promises us is of a magnitude never known until now, in a context where our communities are already weakened by decisions which have been imposed on us with a double movement of drop in revenue and increase in costs. in recent years.

Jean-Luc Moudenc, mayor of Toulouse, October 17

As of October 27, the association of French mayors of Haute-Garonne followed suit in a press release and called, like the mayor of Toulouse, to mobilize on November 7. A call for protest which was heard by the 37 municipalities of the Toulouse metropolitan area.

“We are already facing increasingly significant constraints, the cuts announced by the State make the situation very difficult. These measures directly threaten the quality of our public services and the local economy,” specifies Marc Péré, mayor of Union who will also close his town hall tomorrow.

A coordinated symbolic action followed by at least 38 town halls in the department, from all political sides. These elected officials will gather in front of the Haute-Garonne prefecture in Toulouse this Thursday from noon to voice their concerns.
