This Tuesday, November 5, much of the world had its eyes glued to the final sprint of the American presidential election. On this occasion, the American Democrats of Toulouse met at the Théâtre Garonne, awaiting a result which should come in the days to come.
A decisive evening for History, with a capital H. In the heart of the large hall of the Théâtre Garonne, in Toulouse, the warm atmosphere painfully tries to camouflage a palpable tension. This evening the American Democrats of the Pink City will have a first idea of who their next president will be.
“It’s a very anxiety-provoking environment,” admits Suzette, a member of the party. “This event is an opportunity to support each other, but we are not confident. The results seem very close” explains the American who voted on October 1 from France.
“We are cautiously optimistic”
In the room, several hundred Americans and French people rub shoulders, discuss and express their concern regarding the result: “We are cautiously optimistic” summarizes Gina, proudly wearing a t-shirt bearing the image of the party chaired by Kamala Harris. “The opposing campaign is a campaign which only represents the dreams and whims of one man: Donald Trump. I find that this does not correspond to our country.”
Many students present
While the organizers did not expect to receive so many people for this evening, the auditorium was almost full when the conferences began. Among the crowd, many students, from the universities co-organizing the event, listen attentively to the speakers.
“It's very important for us. Our role is precisely to be able to give these young people the opportunity to vote” explains Scott Stroud, member of the American Democrats in Toulouse.
