By decree, the prefect of Loire-Atlantique prohibited the fishing, collection, transport, storage and marketing of shellfish intended for human consumption from shellfish production zone no. 44.09, in other words the Loire estuary.

“These measures apply to professional fishing and recreational fishing”specifies the prefecture which adds that “this ban follows two consecutive analysis results demonstrating the presence of the Escherichia coli bacteria at a rate higher than the regulatory threshold in shellfish.”

The prefecture has asked the professionals concerned to remove shellfish placed on the market from October 31 for this area.

“Consumers are advised not to ingest and destroy shellfish from the prohibited area that may still be in their possession” et “not to consume shellfish whose geographical origin is unknown or uncertain”further specifies the prefecture.
