The Rock & Cars festival in Lavaur (Tarn) is in mourning. Saturday June 8, 2024, around 6 p.m., shortly before the start of a concert, a tree branch fell on a group of people, causing the death of a man and injuring four other people.

The deceased festival was an Englishman

At the foot of the tree, there were around fifteen spectators, most of them had time to move aside. But five people were caught under the branches. The Red Cross, present on site, quickly intervened to provide first aid, reports The Free Tarn . Police and firefighters quickly arrived on site to treat the injured and secure the area.

One of the spectators was evacuated by emergency services in an absolute emergency. According to the gendarmerie, the main accident victim died during his transport to hospital. “An injured man died in hospital, an Englishman, and four other people were injured,” confirmed to Agence France-Presse (AFP) one of the festival organizers.

The “mourning” festival canceled

The public was then evacuated, and this event was canceled. The mayor of Lavaur, Bernard Carayon indicated in a press release that“an in-depth administrative investigation will be launched this Monday”, reports France 3. The mayor recalled that “ the trees in this garden had been pruned a few months ago.” As a precaution, the elected official banned access to another park in his town which was to host a sports competition this Sunday.
