After the theft of cables, the Carmes center is deprived of a telephone switchboard. A temporary solution was found by the center, but all security protocols are now in question.

The Carmes center is deprived of a telephone network in Aiglun. Since October 19, it is no longer possible for families and residents to directly contact the various services of the establishment. At issue: a theft of cables on a section located between Mallemoisson and the town.

“Hello, I'm sorry. I can't pass you the medical secretaries. We are currently having telephone problems.” For more than two weeks, the same explanations have followed one another at the end of the line at the switchboard of the Carmes center.

“Since we had the cut, we have no more contact with the outside world,” laments Dominique Monardo, the logistics manager. Calls are now received on a mobile phone, and messages noted down, before being written. “The idea is that people can try to keep in touch and get news from the Carmelites.”

“A real daily challenge”

To obtain news, health professionals must, here, call back the people concerned themselves with their own telephone, like Ghiles Slahdji, caregiver. “Usually, it's reception who makes the call to us. We take care of it immediately. Now, we have to take our personal phone, dial the family's number and give us the information. adds a bit of workload,” he says.

A solution found urgently to maintain a link with the outside world. This telephone network outage now calls into question all the protocols of the Carmes center, considered a second-class establishment.

“In the event of a natural or other disaster within the department, our establishment must be able to accommodate patients who would come from the Digne-les-Bains hospital in the event of congestion,” explains director Christelle Poulain.

“Except that with this problem, if the hospital tries to contact us, we will not be able to respond immediately. It’s a real challenge on a daily basis, not to mention the social bond with the residents.”

The return to normal is announced by the operator no later than November 25. The leaders of the Carmelite center, for their part, tried to alert the authorities to this important “security problem”.
