The investigation into the arson of the police station in the Pissevin district, in Nîmes (Gard), has just had a significant progress. A major police operation took place early in the morning, this Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in order to make several arrests in the department.
“Multiple investigations carried out over the last two months have led today to the arrest and placement in police custody of 6 people from Nimes, 3 adults aged 20 to 28, and three minors aged 15, 16 and 17 years,” says Cécile Gensacpublic prosecutor of Nîmes, in a press release. All these individuals were known to the police “for acts related to drugs”.
The investigation continues
After this big shotthe public prosecutor indicates that investigations will continue in order to “establish the potential role of each of those held in custody”.
For the moment, “nothing establishes with certainty a link between the destruction by fire and drug trafficking”. A new communication will be made within 48 hours, time tomove forward a little further in the investigation. Have the perpetrators of the arson been arrested? The response should come quickly.
Several explosions on the night of August 21
On the night of August 21, 2024, several explosions caused significant damage within the Galerie Marcel Sant. The fire had considerably damaged the new police station in the Pissevin district, as well as an adjoining business. The inauguration of the police station that had been hoped for for several years was planned five days later…
“The investigation was carried out on the grounds of damage by dangerous means in flagrante delicto, then preliminary, by the interdepartmental direction of the Gard national police under the direction of the public prosecutor's office,” explains Cécile Gensac. This notably made it possible to determine the origin of the disaster: “a massive spillage of fuel via the chimney of a butcher's shop then under construction.”
