In a context of global and borderless cyber threats, Reunion Island constitutes an attractive target for cybercrime due to its strategic economic status in the Indian Ocean. Raising the levels of cybersecurity and resilience of the Reunion territory therefore represents an essential challenge to which CYBER RÉUNION will respond. The new regional reference center in cybersecurity, supported by Réunion THD, was inaugurated on November 4.
The Réunion Region, in close collaboration with the State, the European Union and the local cyber ecosystem, has entrusted the public agency Réunion THD with the mission of strengthening cybersecurity on the island. CYBER RÉUNION, a new regional brand, aims to protect and support VSEs, SMEs, ETIs, public establishments and associations in Reunion in the face of cyber threats.
Two complementary systems embody this initiative: the CSIRT La Réunion, an incident response center which provides monitoring, alerting and support in the event of security incidents, and the EDIH La Réunion, a one-stop shop for support to digital innovation and cyber resilience. Together, they work to raise the territory's cyber maturity and offer a concrete response to digital challenges.
In the event of a cyberattack, CYBER RÉUNION's CSIRT La Réunion will intervene to guide victims in the first actions to adopt — critical actions, often difficult to execute under the stress imposed by a crisis situation. Navigating the world of cybersecurity can be complex, particularly when faced with technical threats that require an immediate and precise response. CSIRT La Réunion will support each affected organization towards a rapid, effective and sustainable resolution, by facilitating access to expert resources. For in-depth assistance, it will also offer connection with referenced service providers, thus offering comprehensive support adapted to the needs of each structure.
CSIRT La Réunion also offers proactive services to strengthen the digital security of local actors:
– Attack surface management: this service continuously monitors Reunion IP addresses and URLs to identify critical vulnerabilities. In the event of a major breach, the asset owner is immediately alerted by a secure notification, including risks and corrective measures. This monitoring thus reduces risks even before they materialize.
– Cybersecurity diagnosis: with MonAideCyber, a personalized questionnaire assesses the vulnerabilities of each organization. A detailed report, including the main risks and recommendations, is given to beneficiaries to improve their security.
– Threat Status Reports: this service provides an up-to-date view of cyber risks, with analyzes of trends, emerging threats and incidents affecting Reunion Island and the international context.
Reunion Island is fully in line with the national cybersecurity strategy by implementing local initiatives that contribute to this momentum. By relying on CYBER RÉUNION, the territory is participating in France's ambition to triple the turnover of the cyber sector and create 37,000 jobs by 2025. This approach allows Réunion to strengthen its sovereignty digital while contributing to the development of a robust and autonomous security ecosystem, aligned with national standards to respond to current digital challenges
Normane Omarjee, president of Réunion THD: “In an increasingly interconnected world, it is crucial to raise awareness among local stakeholders of cybersecurity issues and to strengthen the level of protection on a regional scale. The objective of CYBER RÉUNION is to develop a local culture of cybersecurity, aligned with international standards, by uniting public and private forces to build a resilient digital ecosystem serving all Réunion residents.”
