A 54-year-old woman was strangled to death by her ex-partner then thrown into the Seine in Louveciennes, in Yvelines, on the night of Saturday November 2 to Sunday November 3, the Versailles prosecutor's office confirmed this Sunday.
The weekends follow one another and are similar. This Sunday, November 3, it was the murderer himself who confessed his crime by confiding in one of his friends. I made a “stupidity”, the man would have told him before recounting the events which took place during the night from Saturday to Sunday in Louveciennes, in Yvelines. He allegedly hit his 54-year-old ex-partner after an argument on a barge where they met, then strangled her before throwing her into the Seine. Immediately, the friend called the police emergency line to report this macabre tragedy. It's half past midnight.
The police went to the address of the barge. In front of the pier, the vehicles of the man and his ex-partner are parked. The police have no trouble arresting a man in his fifties who is intoxicated. He spontaneously told them that the victim, born in 1970 and described as his former partner, had not fallen into the water by accident. Two teams of divers from the police and firefighters found the woman's body at the bow of the boat, around 3 a.m.
A feminicide every three days in France
The Versailles public prosecutor indicated that the man, tenant of part of the barge and already known to the police and justice services, in particular for traffic offenses, had been placed in police custody. An investigation into intentional homicide was opened and entrusted to the Yvelines territorial criminal directorate.
The victim's body was transported to the Garches forensic institute (Hauts-de-Seine), where an autopsy must be carried out, added the prosecution. On average, a feminicide occurs every three days in France. The Ministry of Justice counted 94 feminicides in 2023, compared to 118 in 2022. According to the Nous Tous association, this could be the 112th feminicide of the year in France.
