Dignified access to quality and profitable sustainable food for producers. At Secours catholique and Restos du coeur, solidarity is in the veins of volunteers.
“It is not because we are in a precarious situation that we must eat products of lower quality. Our leitmotif is dignified access for all to sustainable, quality food. » Clément Lavigne is leader of the solidarity network at Secours catholique.
“For several years now, we have been offering solidarity baskets to our social grocery beneficiaries. A basket of fresh fruits and vegetables, twice a month, and a basket of fresh meat once a month. Depending on their situation, the beneficiaries' contribution is 25 to 50% of the normal price. »
“But to support the beneficiaries, we have always
need volunteers…”
Pierre Bouchisse
The operation is a little different at Restos du coeur: “With us, everything is free,” recalls Pierre Bouchisse, head of the Aurillac branch. “Every morning, we do what we call pickups, from supermarkets. We therefore have fresh fruits and vegetables at all times. » The distribution is called “supported”, and beneficiaries can have a balanced average basket which allows a varied diet.
“From the next winter campaign, which will begin on November 19, we have decided to focus on early childhood, up to 36 months. We will be able to provide suitable food products, small pots, quality milk. We also have a lot of single-parent families who we will better support for this next campaign. »
