It was around 4:30 p.m., late in the afternoon of Sunday, November 3, 2024, when a traffic accident occurred on rue Alfred-Rossel, on the quay of Barfleur (Manche). For an as yet undetermined reason, a motorcycle collided semi-frontally with a light vehicle.
If the passengers of the vehicle are unharmed, this is not the case for the driver of the motorcycle and his passenger, both aged 24. Dispatched to the site, fourteen firefighters from the emergency centers of Saint-Pierre-Eglise, Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, Valognes and Cherbourg were mobilized at the sight of the injuries as well as the SMUR 50 of Valognes.
Helicoptered to Caen University Hospital
While the motorcycle passenger was treated by firefighters for minor injuries, SMUR doctors treated the motorcycle driver. “The slightly injured person was transported by firefighters to the Pasteur hospital center in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin,” underlines the head of the fire brigade, Lieutenant Yvan Vrac. Seriously injured, the motorcycle pilot required transport by the Dragon 50 civil security helicopter to the Caen University Hospital (Calvados). Polytraumatized and seriously injured, it took many minutes of treatment by SMUR doctors before he was transported aboard the helicopter which took off from the dock around 6:30 p.m.. Present on site, the gendarmerie noted the clues to determine the causes of the accident.
