In Arrènes, in the Creuse, on the edge of Haute-, Steven Barre found a puffball weighing almost 10 kilograms on October 24.

At the bend of a path in Arrènes (Creuse), an astonishing find awaits Steven Barre. He first mistakes this imposing white object for a bucket or a block of salt that is given to the cows. As he approached, what was his surprise to discover a puffball of… considerable size! He weighs it on his return: 9.8 kilograms.

Driven by a passion passed down from father to son and meticulous, he checks that this gigantic mushroom is indeed edible. “If there is 1% doubt, we don’t touch it,” he warns. You should not risk food poisoning. Luck is on his side because half has already been devoured in “very good” tagliatelle with cream.

A 22 kg puffball in Canada

According to the Guinness Book of Recordsthe largest edible mushroom in the world was picked in Canada. A puffball too, but weighing more than 22 kilograms. Steven Barre therefore has a challenge before displaying such a discovery. On his Instagram account, @rabouin_des_wabs_3, he shares his harvests and his experience.
