In Deux-Sèvres, the renewal of generations of firefighters is also taking place in the colleges. An example in Prahecq.
A dozen students from the Emile-Zola college in Prahecq have been involved since the start of the September school year in the Young Firefighters (JSP) division. It's new. And this October day, they follow an exercise which follows a more theoretical course in class on learning the corporation's ranks.
Everyone has the hope that in four years, through training of 1 hour 45 minutes per week combining theory, practice and sport, they will be awarded their JSP certificate and most of them will join the ranks of the Deux-Sévrien volunteer firefighters. like Sébastien.
“It was my uncle, a professional firefighter, who made me want to turn to the JSP. Later, I will be a landscaper and a volunteer firefighter”he said. He's in fourth grade.
Stemming the decline in the number of volunteer firefighters
Good news for the future of volunteering promoted by the Deux-Sèvres department. “Our department” is trying to anticipate “the decline in the number of volunteer firefighters by encouraging young people to become volunteers later, by training them, by empowering them”explains Coralie Denoues, president of the community. “The cooperation between the Department, the SDIS, National Education and the Departmental Association of Young Firefighters is unique in France. It helps build the future of this volunteering, essential to our civil security model, particularly in rural areas. »
The Department subsidizes
During the period 2024-2028, 288 young people will obtain the national certificate of Young Firefighter at the Voltaire colleges in Airvault, Supervielle in Bressuire, Philippe-de-Commynes in Niort, Emile-Zola in Prahecq, Jean-de- la-Fontaine in Thénezay and Mendès-France in Parthenay.
For this, the Department of Deux-Sèvres is making a financial commitment of 45% or 178,000 euros of the cost of the project.
