This summer again, the heat proved stifling. And it doesn't seem to be stopping any time soon. Météo France revealed its forecasts on the temperatures it will be in 2100 in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes).
According to high estimates, it will be necessary to add 5 degrees in the summer season. Here's what the reports say.
+5 degrees in summer, Météo France announces
Global warming is increasingly perceptible to the general public with very intense heat waves and precipitation. sometimes devastating. The Côte d'Azur is the perfect example: an impressive heatwave has become commonplace, then snow in the middle of summer, it's impossible to understand anything.
What will it be by 2100? Temperatures, rain, natural risks, a Météo France report gives forecasts for Nice on its Climat Diag website.
In summer, we will have to count on an increase in temperature of 5 degrees, at the highest, with an average value close to 27°C, compared to a reference value (in gray on the graphs) of 22°C.
More and more hot days
The other seasons will not be spared with a significant increase temperature: +3°C in winter, +4°C in autumn.
The annual number of tropical nights should be 105 at the highest, 91 at the lowest. For comparison, Nice exceeded 55 consecutive in 2024. But the year 2022 had been very hot with the mark of 100 tropical nights crossed.
Precipitation is also expected to be more violent with a cumulative rainfall of 336mm at its highest in autumn, compared to 311 as a reference value. This is more than in Marseille, for example, which oscillates at 265mm of rain in the same season, according to the trajectories.
A rise in water levels predicted
But that's not the most worrying thing. Météo France is sounding the alarm on changes in the level of the Mediterranean Sea. In fact, estimates announce an increase of 79 centimeters at the highest against a reference value set at… zero. It should move forward at least 46 cm, depending on the lowest value calculated.
In Nice, the pebbles on the Promenade des Anglais serve as a dike to protect the city against rising water levels.
More generally, Météo France warns: “The climate emergency is here. To act, it is essential to know precisely the climate changes to which we must adapt.”
