Launched in July 2024, L’After (Association for an Ecological and Social Republic), is a French left-wing political movement created by several dissidents from La France insoumise, such as Clémentine Autain, Alexis Corbière, Danielle Simonnet and Raquel Garrido.
This political group now has a Seine-et-Marnaise branch, initiated in particular by the Unitary network of Sénartmade up of former LFI members who left Jean-Luc Mélenchon's party at the start of 2024, and several signatories of the Appeal for VIe Republic in LFI.
The left needs new strength
“We are left-wing activists, engaged in the political, union and associative life of the department,” explain the creators of this Seine-et-Marnaise branch, including Christophe Bosquillonmunicipal councilor of Cesson or Hamid Niatideputy mayor of Lieusaint. There are several local elected officials among us. We mobilized against pension reform, against racism, discrimination, against the immigration law and of course in favor of the New Popular Front. We wish to participate in the creation of the new balance of power which will allow us to turn the page on the neoliberal policies imposed for several decades, which have destroyed the social fabric in France, widened inequalities and precipitated the ecological catastrophe.
In February 2024, around twenty LFI activists left the movement, disappointed at “not having succeeded in developing LFI as it should have”, also citing “internal dysfunctions, and a problematic relationship with the leader”.
“The left needs a new force, united and resolutely committed to an in-depth ecological and social transformation, which carries a program of rupture while adopting an internal functioning consistent with the democratic project of the VIe Republic, continue the new members of The After 77. [Ce mouvement] is a political alternative built by its base. Activists are not simple executors of decisions taken from above, they become real actors in reflection and decision-making.”
At the departmental level, the two representatives of the movement will be Christophe Bosquillon (Cesson) and Julie Coyne (Coulommiers).
