a resident of Yvelines denounces poor treatment by firefighters

The man denounces an “abnormal” attitude of the firefighters, which led him to transport his wife to the emergency room himself. There, she was diagnosed with hypokalemia, a lack of potassium that can lead to cardiac arrest.

Did the firefighters not appreciate the urgency of the situation? A resident of Maurepas, in , denounced to Le Parisien poor treatment by firefighters, mobilized on October 24 while his wife was writhing in pain.

That evening, this resident called for help while his wife was suffering from intense pain. The latter spent the 24 hours vomiting due to gastroenteritis transmitted by their children, and was unable to eat or drink anything.

The man tells our colleagues that the firefighters arrived “very quickly, around ten minutes later”. But once there, his wife is unable to clearly explain the situation to them due to her pain. She herself says, after the events, that she had “difficulty correcting the firefighter who is on the phone with the Samu doctor”.

The Samu concluded that it was “a stomach ache”

Her husband claims that the firefighters pass the information on to the Samu “systematically minimizing” the situation. After an electrocardiogram and taking into account the information transmitted by the firefighters, the Samu doctor concluded “a stomach ache” and authorized the firefighters to leave the scene.

The husband then decides to take his wife to the emergency room himself. As the firefighters helped him get her downstairs, he remembers one of them saying “it's not a stomach ache that's going to stop her from getting up.”

At the hospital, the man reports that the caregivers are “stunned” by the urgency of the situation. His wife suffers from hypokalemia, a lack of potassium that can lead to cardiac arrest. She will remain hospitalized overnight.

“In the emergency room, they told me that if I hadn't brought her, she would have been there.”

“Abnormal” support

For its part, the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) affirms to Le Parisien that “the intervention followed the entire procedure”, and that “the care and support appear appropriate”.

But the father assures him that “anyone could have seen at the time that it was not a simple stomach ache” and evokes an “abnormal”, and even “catastrophic” intervention. .

He denounces the behavior of the firefighters towards his wife. “They were talking to him like he was an animal, yelling at him” and he even had the feeling that they were “disgusted to be there”. More than a week after the events, his wife is still in shock.
