Trenitalia is relaunching its direct connection between Paris, Lyon and the ski resorts of the Alps this winter

Trenitalia intends to capitalize on the winter season. The Italian train company, a competitor to SNCF, formalized on Thursday the extension of its - line towards the Savoyard ski resorts of Chambéry and Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, in a press release. A device already tested last year.

These journeys will be available from December 15, 2024 to March 31, 2025 for one round trip per day, on Saturdays and Sundays. To connect Lyon station, in Paris, to Chambéry station, it will take 3 hours 15 minutes, according to a press release from the railway company. The Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne stop will be served in four hours.

Travelers will also be able to board the train from the Lyon Part-Dieu, Lyon Perrache, or even Chambéry Challes-les-Eaux stations.

With this device, Trenitalia inaugurates the stop at Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne. A city “destined to become an international station and the convergence point of all modes of travel in Savoie with the completion of the Lyon-Turin tunnel”, according to the Italian company.

“Thanks to these new connections, we are responding to a growing demand from travelers who want to get to the mountains quickly and comfortably. This is a new step in our commitment to offering flexible journeys, adapted to all needs, and respectful of the environment,” rejoices Marco Caposciutti, President of Trenitalia , in a press release.

The Italian company intends to relaunch itself after a long period of difficulties. In 2023, the partial collapse of a cliff in the town of Saint-André, near Maurienne, forced Trenitalia to suspend its Paris-Milan connection. Significant security work has been undertaken, but this has fallen behind schedule and reopening is not planned before the first quarter of 2025.

SNCF will also offer a direct round trip between Paris and the town of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, every weekend in winter. Connection journeys to Savoyard ski resorts are also available during the week.
