Two human feet were discovered on Tuesday, September 10, on a towpath along the Seine in Méricourt. An investigation has been opened. For the time being, the identity of the victim has not been determined.

A macabre discovery. A human foot in a shoe was discovered on Tuesday, September 10 by a walker on the banks of the Seine in Méricourt (Yvelines). A second foot was later discovered a few meters further by the police.

• A walker makes the discovery with her dog

The facts date back to Tuesday morning. On this path that runs along the Seine, Corinne, a walker, is used to walking with her dog. But this morning of September 10, she made the surprising discovery of a Decathlon brand shoe, at the edge of the towpath.

“The shoe was lying down. I thought there was a stone inside, I told myself that someone was having fun,” she confided to BFMTV.

Corinne says she had an appointment so she didn’t hang around. “On the way back, I saw her too and I said to myself ‘this is weird anyway. If she’s still here tonight, I’ll do something’,” the walker continues.

A friend passed by before her and called the town hall. The mayor then informed the police of the situation.

• The area cordoned off by the police

The police set up a device to cordon off the area. Quickly, during the search, a second shoe, identical to the first, containing the second foot, was found about 20 meters away, on the edge of the Seine.

The two feet were found in a pair of size 43 shoes. The area is cordoned off by the police, who are searching for the rest of the body.

• No preferred track

For the time being, the investigation has not been able to determine the identity of the victim. The only certainty is that “the feet were cut off,” according to information from BFMTV.

The Mantes-la-Jolie research brigade is in charge of the investigation. It was opened by the Versailles prosecutor’s office for voluntary homicide. The charge of voluntary homicide was chosen “in order to have a complete investigation framework, not because we are certain” that this discovery is the result of a homicide, the prosecutor’s office clarified to AFP.

At this stage of the investigation, all hypotheses are on the table and no lead, from murder to accident, has been ruled out. The two members have been sent for analysis to the criminal research institute of the national gendarmerie.
