A counterattack after street prayer. Thursday October 31, 2024, several hundred people gathered in Paris at the Debilly footbridge. The goal: “rehomosexualize” the capital in response to a collective prayer performed on this same bridge at the beginning of October by fundamentalist Catholics. The latter wanted to “clean up the blasphemy” after the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
Parody costumes and banners
It is the initiative of the collective LGBTQIA + Inverti.es that the event took place last night. Several dozen people came in disguise. Some outfits made reference to the Catholic religion. A banner with the inscription “In the name of Trans, Queers and Saintes Gouines” was displayed. Rosaries and sequins were also there. The gathering was dispersed shortly after by the police.
The opening ceremony in the crosshairs of fundamentalists
Asked by Liberationone of the members of the collective indicated that the aim was to return “blow for blow” to the event that occurred on October 7. That day, a little over 250 young Catholics gathered to pray and “clean away blasphemy”. The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games was targeted. The sequence with singer Philippe Katerine and drag queens caused a reaction in conservative circles.
