The Saint-Dizier animal shelter (Haute-Marne) denounced a scam via the practice of usurpation, this Tuesday, June 4. People in parking lots claimed to be collecting money on behalf of the association. The police have been notified.
We gladly give to help animals. But donations don’t always go to the right pockets. This is what the Saint-Dizier animal shelter (Haute-Marne) discovered, disgusted, this Tuesday, June 4, 2024.
The practice is simple: people approach ordinary people in the parking lot of a supermarket. They present a simple “card with pictures of animals”we learn on the shelter’s Facebook page, and presto, here’s the change.
It would be about “young women”, and they would have officiated in the Leclerc parking lot. Several comments under the publication also mention their presence on the Action page, as well as through door-to-door canvassing in the streets of the Marnaval district. All these places are on the south bank of the Marne, dividing the city into two parts (see on the map below).
It’s a banal usurpation that requires few resources, but it has proven itself. The shelter reports several “people who have been fooled”. Contacted by France 3 Champagne-Ardenne, it did not answer our questions. However, he later clarified that the police had been notified, and that it was this institution that the victims of the scam should turn to. This Saint-Dizier association is supported by the municipality, whose premises have recently been renovated. He seeks to foster or adopt many abandoned dogs, as well as cats. Its main argument: to adopt is to save two lives, namely that of the animal, and of the one who will take its place at the shelter… Recently, a fundraiser was launched to finance the surgical operation which had to benefit from one of its residents.
