Like every year, the Food Bank is organizing its big fall collection from Friday November 22 to Sunday November 24 in stores in the region. The objective is to replenish the association's stocks. To this end, she is calling for volunteers. Depending on their availability, volunteers will be deployed in teams in front of a store in their geographic area. Their mission, over two hours or more, will be to present the operation to customers and collect food products donated by customers.
140 tonnes of donations expected
In the Doubs, this year's collection concerns almost 140 stores, both large and small. “It requires around 2,000 volunteers, given that they only stay for periods of two to three hours,” specifies Michel Jeannin, the collection coordinator for Besançon, adding that only 20% of former volunteers renew their participation in collection from year to year.
Last year, still in Doubs, there were 1,500 of them and collected 140 tonnes of donations. This year, the Food Bank hopes to at least match that score. “We need canned goods and dry products, like flour, coffee, sugar, pasta, rice… Products that allow us to make a lot of meals, and that everyone consumes. »
“More and more people need our services”
“It’s more and more difficult, more and more people need our services,” underlines Michel Jeannin. This collection is part of a growing need for donations for the Food Bank. In 2023, its beneficiaries were 23,000, or 17% more than in 2022. In total, this made around 400,000 entries into the department's various distribution points.
