“The Policeman” arrives on the Châteauroux sidelines. This is the nickname of Cris, named new coach of Berrichonne Foot this Monday. A press conference must take place at 2 p.m. to present it, confirming exclusive information from the Olympique and Lyonnais website. The 47-year-old Brazilian succeeds Patrice Lair, after his abrupt departure a week ago. He will not have time to find his feet, his first match at Châteauroux takes place on Friday November 1st against Paris 13 Atlético.
Cris hasn't coached for over a year. His coaching career began in National 2 with the GOAL FC team. He then moved up to the next level, in National, with 18 months spent at Le Mans FC but results that were too disappointing. He bounces back immediately in November 2022 at Versailles, still in National. But the adventure ends at the end of the 2022-2023 season.
Take back control of a team in dire straits in National
Cris also had a rich career as a professional footballer, leaving his mark on his time at Olympique Lyonnais. A defender known to be tough on man and intelligent in recovery, he won four French championship titles before ending his career in Türkiye and Brazil.
The Brazilian arrives at Châteauroux in an unfavorable context. La Berrichonne Football is last in National with seven defeats in nine matches. This is the eighth coach since Berri's descent into National, in the summer of 2021. A chronic instability which also explains the club's difficulties in obtaining good results over time.
