Gilles Grégoire, director of the Northern Fire Department, promoted to the rank of officer of the Legion of Honor

SDIS 59, the departmental fire and rescue service in the North, sees two of its firefighters rewarded for their actions. During this ceremony organized at the Nouveau Siècle, this Saturday, the director of SDIS du , Gilles Grégoire, as well as Colonel Didier Durand, former deputy director, shared the stage.

In the first part, Gilles Grégoire was promoted to the rank ofofficer in the order of the Legion of Honor. While eight years ago he received the rank of knight, this new status confirms the importance of his career and his actions. “ At the fire, on the ground of the worst accidents, during the collapses of […] you always responded », congratulated Jacques Houssin, chairman of the board of directors. In office since 1989, Gilles Grégoire has led the largest SDIS in since 2015, made up of more than 7,600 firefighters.

“An individual reward, but also a collective one”

Didier Durand, former deputy director of SDIS, was subsequently knighted in theNational Order of Merit. The prefect of the Hauts-de-France region, Bertrand Gaume, highlighted his remarkable career by presenting him with this blue badge, a symbol of recognition for his years of service.

In total, around fifty colleagues and friends gathered to celebrate the presentation of the badges. “ It's symbolic, but it means a lot because we are attached to symbols. It is an individual reward, but also a collective one. », Explains Nicolas Mougin, communications manager at SDIS. In a second part, the fire brigade orchestra, created a year ago, offered a concert based on film music and variety songs.
