Built in the 1st century by the Romans to transport water to Nîmes, the Pont du Gard is an exceptional witness to the ingenuity of ancient times. At 49 meters high, it is the tallest Roman aqueduct bridge in the world. Its construction, carried out in just five years by nearly a thousand workers, remains an impressive technical feat to this day. But this time, it was neither its colossal dimensions nor its history that made people talk about it, but an unprecedented illumination linked to the world of cinema.

“Strength and honor” on Pont-du-Gard!

Indeed, in a historic first, images from the film Gladiator II were projected onto the arches of the bridge, providing visitors with a spectacular visual experience. This play of lights has transformed this ancient jewel into a giant screen! Epic sequences from the film paraded across the thousand-year-old stone of the bridge, “while cult lines like “Strength and Honor” echoed through the night”!

The first Gladiatorreleased in 2000, had already generated considerable enthusiasm for ancient history, attracting 4.8 million spectators in and winning five Oscars. This new collaboration between Pont du Gard and Gladiator II therefore promises to be a winning operation, both for the film and for the site.
