Ten years for the Maison de l’absinthe and its director

A decade celebrated as it should be. The House of Absinthe will celebrate its 10th anniversary this Saturday, during the event Absinthe in celebration. Visits are planned, while a giant absinthe fountain (4.5 m high!) will be inaugurated, alongside a vél absinthe, an absinthe bicycle.

This institution has been directed since its inauguration in 2014 by Yann Klauser. The director was even project manager for the Maison de l’absinthe before taking on this position. It must be said that the origins are almost 20 years old: “At the time, we imagined an absinthe house with a stylized still, designed by Mario Botta. Unfortunately, this file remained under the pile” explains Yann Klauser. “And suddenly in 2011, there was a merger of municipalities. And the trigger is the provision of the district hotel in Môtiers. » This place is emblematic in the history of La Bleue, the distillers were judged there during the clandestine period. The project was launched and quickly received various political supports. Distillers also follow in the majority, because they did not all have premises to accommodate visitors. Remember that the ban on the Green Fairy was lifted on 1er March 2005.

The purpose of the House? “No tourist leaves without having a bottle of absinthe in their backpack,” says Yann Klauser. The mission seems accomplished 10 years later, when the number of visitors has exceeded 110,000.

Yann Klauser did not want to become a “dinosaur”

The director of the Maison de l’absinthe will have to return the keys to the building on June 30, after his election to the Val-de-Travers municipal council. The idea of leaving his “baby, even if it wasn’t just mine” is difficult for Yann Klauser. But he already says he is delighted with his new role, he who “has always invested for 20 years” in his region.

For the future, Yann Klauser sees “a very bright future for the House of Absinthe. Today, museography is evolving very quickly, so there are still plenty of aspects that we can highlight. » For the moment, this position has not yet been put out to competition. /swe
