The events took place this Tuesday, May 28, 2024. In the small village of Canaules-et-Argentières, a 93-year-old woman was going to the village cemetery, her arms loaded with flower pots to place on the graves, when she was attacked by a dog. The animal jumped at his throat. The attack was so violent that the woman died as a result of his injuries.

Emergency services tried to save the victim for 45 minutes, in vain. The prosecutor revealed the name of the victim, Annette Guibal, who happens to be the former mayor of the villagefrom 2001 to 2014. His tragic death shocked the very heart of this small village of 500 inhabitants.

Two suspects were taken into custody

It was an 18-year-old girl, who witnessed the scene, who raised the alarm and called the police. When the emergency services arrived on the scene, she explained to them that the woman had been attacked by a stray dog. However, the young woman is an apprentice in a dog center, and she was walking three dogs during the tragedy : an Argentinian mastiff, an Australian shepherd and a Staffordshire bull terrier.

The public prosecutor’s office in charge of the case has opened an investigation into manslaughter. It was in this context that the police arrested two people before placing them in police custody. According to a Source close to the investigation, the two suspects would be the young woman and the owner of the dog center. An autopsy must be performed this Friday, May 31, 2024.
