De-index retirement pensions? An additional “plane blow” regrets the senator of Gard Burgoa

At a time when the public deficit is exploding, Bercy is looking for sources of savings… The senator from Gard, Laurent Burgoa, is surprised and questions the Government on the deindexation of retirement pensions, surprised that this subject is mentioned, reproaching the Government to “consider that our retirees are too rich…”

Deindexing pensions would mean no longer adapting the amount of pensions paid to changes in prices, which have been on the rise in recent years (reevaluated each year according to the inflation rate, indexing pensions is a way of maintaining purchasing power seniors).

“When will you stop this scapegoating policy? », calls out Laurent Burgoa in the Senate, this Wednesday, May 29.

During current affairs questions to the Government, Senator Laurent Burgoa asked whether the project* of “deindexation of retirement pensions” was on the agenda of the Government’s projects…in a context of high inflation suffered by our retirees.

The Gard senator is surprised (or not) “that after 7 years at the head of our country’s finances, the Government has still not undertaken any fundamental reform, carrying out successive cuts without a long-term vision. ..”

L. Burgoa considers that “to imply that retirees live too well (…) is to widen an intergenerational gap. This leaves young generations thinking that while they work, their elders live in opulence with pensions that are too generous”

A few days before the European elections, Laurent Burgoa concluded in the hemicycle, “the harm you are doing to our social cohesion will always be greater than the savings you believe you are making and will provide the basis for populism which will be expressed, I fear, once again in the next European elections.”

Roland Lescure, Minister Delegate in charge of Industry and Energy, did not respond to the Gard senator indicating that the budget would be constructed from the summer.
