Henri Nallet, emblematic political figure of Yonne, is dead

Sad news which should not leave the residents of Tonnerre in Yonne indifferent. Henri Nallet, former mayor of the town, died this Wednesday, May 29. It’s a emblematic political figure of Yonne from the 1980s-1990s.

He was 85 years old

This member of the French Socialist Party had worked at the National Institute of Agronomic Research before becoming an advisor on agricultural issues to François Mitterrand, then Minister of Agriculture and Justice during the two seven-year terms of the first socialist president of the 5th Republic. Henri Nallet also had chose Yonne to establish itself locally.

Although born in the southwest, in Bergerac, he decided to stop in Yonne in 1986. An obvious rural department for him, always attached to agricultural issues. This was obvious to local elected officials when he stood in the legislative elections in 1986 to run for the second constituency. In 2008, he recounted his debut on France Bleu Auxerre: “I had been parachuted by the national leadership to lead the list in the department. And the socialist activists who had already made their choice and who had already thought about their campaign, saw me arrive at the start with a bit of an eye bad So, I went to see them, I talked with them, it went well and it ended well since I was elected. But already at that time, the political activists were very accepting. the airdrops were bad and of course I was able to see it. But afterwards, everything was sorted out.”

Subsequently, he became mayor of Tonnerre in 1989, a city that he led for almost 10 years, while the economic crisis hit the country and the city’s most important company, J2T, which will eventually close. He gradually retired from political life at the end of the 1990s, leaving his seat as mayor of Tonnerre in 1998, then his seat as a deputy in 1999.
