The various iron pieces arrived Tuesday, May 28, 2022 in the morning on the town hall square in the town of L’Île-d’Olonne.

This Wednesday at the beginning of the afternoon, the replica of the Eiffel Tower, on a 1/10th scale of that of Paris, Eiffela, was erected. She will stay 89 days on the spot.

An idea from Philippe Maindron

In 2016, an extraordinary idea was imagined by Philippe Maindron, a Vendéen at the head of an events company, Maindron production. Eiffela, a structure identical to the Eiffel Tower, assembled in Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez (85), quickly created a buzz in the French media, even as far as Paris.

“No one had ever had the idea of creating a replica of the Iron Lady since its construction 134 years ago,” explains this lover of the work of Gustave Eiffel. He managed to mount his replica at the foot of the original tower.

“Eiffela must have been in this place, at the feet of her mother, in the gardens of the Champ-de-Mars, a somewhat sacred place, reserved for the Paris town hall. My challenge turned out to be extremely complicated to get the agreements. I managed to place her there for ten days. »

He had launched this idea five or six years ago. His replica of the Eiffel Tower at the foot of the real one, on the Champ-de-Mars, has traveled the world. She was photographed a lot, and images circulated around the world.

From now on, Eiffela is in demand abroad. In the meantime, it is creating a buzz in the small neighboring town of Sables-d’Olonne.

Some numbers

The structure, which now sits in L’Île-d’Olonne, is made of iron like the original, measures 32 m in height, and weighs 23 tonnes. There are 3131 parts and 7392 bolts.

The municipality, which announced the arrival of Eiffela at the end of April, sees it as a nod to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
