Laurence and Eric are the responsible and loving parents of Guillaume, 17 years old. As the family prepares to go on vacation, the police come to arrest them. Guillaume allegedly raped a friend. For parents, it’s astounding. But very quickly, he confesses. His parents are torn between incomprehension, horror, grief, guilt for not having seen, for not having done. Then begins for Laurence and Eric the fight to understand what really happened. And the even more difficult one of accompanying their son in this legal storm. Without denying his responsibility because they are indeed his parents in perpetuity…

This Tuesday evening France 2 broadcasts the TV film Parents in perpetuity, worn by actors Natacha Lindinger and Éric Caravaca, who portray this couple caught in turmoil opposite Jules Houplain (photos) who plays their son, Guillaume. Although the names of the protagonists were changed in the TV film, it is indeed a true story, that of Dominique and Sophie Moulinas, and their son diagnosed with schizophrenia and sentenced to life imprisonment for rape and murder. Freely adapted from the eponymous testimonial book of the Moulinas couple, the fiction brought to the screen by Safy Nebbou returns to this criminal affair which shook France.

The Agnès Marin affair

In 2010, Matthieu Moulinas, 17, was arrested by the authorities after having raped his young neighbor Julie at the threat of a kitchen knife. Matthieu was arrested and placed in pre-trial detention for 4 months, before his parents managed to send him back to school (under judicial supervision) in a new establishment, a boarding school… But in 2011, Matthieu did it again by raping and murdering with 17 stab wounds one of her college classmates: Agnès Marin, aged 13, before burning her body in the forest.

The trial of Matthieu Moulinas

In 2013, Matthieu was an adult at the time of his trial and received a life sentence. His parents will appeal the decision, so that he can also benefit from psychiatric care in detention. His sentence will be confirmed on appeal, but accompanied by socio-judicial monitoring and a treatment order.

The parents of young Agnès also filed a complaint against the State, following the numerous judicial dysfunctions which allowed Matthieu to be released after the rape of his neighbor. The State was ordered to pay the Marin family the sum of 185,000 euros in damages.

Is Matthieu Moulinas still in prison?

At the end of the TV film, a note of intent states that Matthieu Moulinas is now 30 years old and is serving his sentence in a prison located in Ensisheim, in Alsace in eastern France. His family has remained very united and continues to visit him regularly. “. Questioned by our colleagues from Télépro, Sophie Moulinas also spoke about her son’s daily life “ Today, Matthieu is under treatment in a prison with a psychiatric unit. He works with wood, alongside an educator (…) We see him once a month, because he lives 700km from us. »
