The young man scaled a balcony before attempting to climb onto the roof, but slipped on a tile and fell backwards. A psychological support unit has been set up in the neighborhood.

A 29-year-old young man died last Saturday, May 18, after falling from the roof of a building located on rue Orfila in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, reports Le Parisien this Tuesday, May 28.

According to a neighbor, the man wanted to recover his cat which had holed up on the roof. Around 12:30 p.m. that day, Philippe, whose apartment is located opposite that of the victim, was looking after his children when he saw the latter “climbing over” his neighbor’s balcony, located on the 3rd floor, explain our colleagues.

A psychological support unit in place

The 29-year-old, “in socks” is “ready to set foot on the “mechanical tile” roof. “When I saw him, I went to my balcony to yell at him not to do that. He didn’t hear me. He slipped on the tile like a banana peel and tipped backwards, into the void,” Philippe confides to the daily.

According to the father, also an architect by profession, the tiles “are assembled together like Lego but are not fixed”.

His son, a young firefighter from Paris, went down to try to resuscitate the victim, in vain. “I think he didn’t suffer. The worst thing was that once the firefighters and the police left, the little cat returned to the apartment which had remained open,” explains Philippe.

Residents and business owners in the area are still very shocked. A psychological support unit has been set up.
