A 35-year-old man was arrested on the RER D early in the morning of Tuesday May 28, 2024 while the train was at the Maisons-Alfort – Alfortville station (Val-de-Marne). The suspect, born in Cameroon, was initially placed in police custody.

He was going to a psychiatric medical appointment

He explained to investigators that at the time of the events, he was on the RER to go to a psychiatric medical appointment. If passengers called the police, it was because the thirty-year-old, after a remark had been made to him because he was disturbing the occupants of the carriage with his music, allegedly brandished a knife. The man then allegedly launched “We only have Allah”indicated the prosecution, cited by Le Figaro .

The bladed weapon was in the suspect’s bag, report our colleagues. The traveler who asked him to turn down the volume of his music managed to grab the knife and throw it out the RER window. The accused did not resist his arrest. He was also not carrying any dangerous object, our colleagues detail.

His police custody had to be interrupted for the latter’s automatic transfer to a hospital, explains the national daily. The prosecution in fact described the man as “agitated on a psychological and motor level” and showing signs of “delusional syndrome”. An investigation into “death threats materialized in writing, images or other objects” was opened.
