Gironde is testing social food security: “It relieves a major expense”

“I was already buying meat four or five times a month, but not of the same quality,” says Paul (the first name has been changed), 62 years old. For this resident of Préchac, a small town in southern Gironde, the “Social Food Security” (SSA) from which he has been benefiting for a month and a half “relieved a major expense item”. He is one of 400 participants, spread across 193 households in the department located in town or in the countryside, to take part in this life-size test for a year. In exchange for a monthly contribution, established by each person according to their income, the SSA grants each month MonA, the name of the food currency, knowing that 1 MonA equals 1 euro. That is 75 euros per household and an additional 75 euros per person in the household.

Which makes 150 euros for Paul, at the RSA. “I didn’t even manage to spend it all in the first month! », smiles the beneficiary who contributed 10 euros in April and plans to give more in the coming months. Like Lucy (the first name has been changed), 33 Years. After “a few difficult months”, she will gradually increase her monthly contribution, starting at 30 euros. “I feel more confident in choosing organic products,” adds the young woman who appreciates participating in the meticulous choice of approved producers.
