Two people were found shot dead in their home, in Monflanquin (Lot-et-Garonne), this Tuesday, May 28. According to the public prosecutor, it is still too early at this stage to establish a scenario. On the other hand, the intervention of a third party appears unlikely.

The town of Monflanquin was shaken this Tuesday, May 28. The gendarmes were requested to investigate the discovery of a body in Allée des Mûriers, a small residential alley near the intersection of the Villeneuve road and the Cancon road, south of the bastide. Inside, a retired couple, aged 88 and 63.

When they arrived, the police found the octogenarian seriously injured in the face. Despite the care provided, he died before being transported to hospital. Based on the medical examiner’s initial examinations, his death and that of his wife were caused by a firearm. A hunting rifle was found at the scene.

Since the end of the morning, this small residential area has been cordoned off by the police. According to a neighbor, a retiree sitting on her balcony: “I didn’t hear anything, I saw the bikers arriving at the end of the morning followed closely by criminal identification.” She knew the two retirees, both without history.

On site, technicians from the Research Section as well as gendarmes from the Villeneuve-sur-Lot company and the Monflanquin brigade continued to investigate. The criminal identification truck was still there mid-afternoon

“Too early for a scenario”

According to the first testimonies collected, a “green presence” type system from which the couple benefited made it possible to alert the neighbors. The investigation must make it possible to determine whether the alarm was triggered automatically or voluntarily.

According to the public prosecutor, “no prior record of domestic violence was known to this couple, either to the judicial services or to the Lot-et-Garonne gendarmerie; no conviction appears in their respective criminal records .” It is also stated that “the man had difficulty coping with the deterioration of his state of health”.

Accident, act or voluntary acts? For now, it is still too early to establish a scenario and hypotheses. On the other hand, according to the prosecutor, it appears unlikely that a third party could have intervened. “That being said, the Agen public prosecutor’s office does not rule out any avenue of work, and has ordered autopsies to be carried out on the two bodies.”

The day particularly impacted the residents of the peaceful town. The mayor, Nathalie Founaud-Veysset visited the site. “Everyone is very touched. It’s a tragedy,” testifies the councilor.
