A festive Biennale for visarte.jura. The 20th edition of the exhibition of the regional section of the professional association of visual artists takes place in two stages in the former Condor factories in Courfaivre, from June 1 to 23, then from August 31 to September 22. It is held during a year of triple commemoration: the 20th Biennale, the 45th anniversary of the visarte.jura group and the jubilee of the plebiscite for the creation of the canton of Jura. In this context, the association “aux arts!” » produced in parallel the exhibition “The Art of Autonomy” on artists who participated in the creation of the canton of Jura.

This historical exhibition is made up of 11 sections: “I wanted in particular to highlight the different fights against the place of arms of the Franches-Montagnes and I wanted to talk about Moutier as a cultural incubator around this Jura artistic identity with the engraving workshop and Max Robert editions. I obviously wanted to talk about freedom, it will be about Tristan Solier who was imprisoned for conscientious objection. We will have a terrible episode which is that of the repression in Moutier and which was recounted by Maggioni. We are going to talk about one of the great patrons who accompanied the birth of the canton of Jura with a foundation which will help artists, Joseph Lachat. It will also be about the Café du Soleil and a gallery which has been a place of emulation and extraordinary excitement with the Au Virage gallery in Séprais”, explains Yves Guignard, curator of the exhibition “The Art of ‘Autonomy’. This art historian was able to count on the institutional support of the Jura Collection of Fine Arts and the museums of Porrentruy, Delémont and Moutier, as well as on the support of the families of the various artists, including Coghuf, Jean-François Comment, Peter Fürst, Noël Jeanbourquin, Liuba Kirova, Gérald Tolck, Arnold Stékoffer, Tristan Solier and Yves Voirol.

The 20th Biennial of visarte.jura will exhibit in Courfaivre the works of 54 artists from the Jura, the Bernese Jura and Bienne. It received a record number of 89 applications. The jury is chaired by Juri Steiner, director of the Vaud cantonal Museum of Fine Arts. Two distinctions will be awarded: “The François-Lachat Prize” and “The Léonard Gianadda Foundation Prize”. /emu
