Cancellation of fairs: “It poses a problem of social ties” for the FSU-SNUIPP of Bas-Rhin

The rectorate of the Strasbourg academy is issuing instructions to school directors to strengthen security. But this leads several schools to cancel end-of-year fairs. Jonathan Welschinger, departmental co-secretary of FSU-SNUIPP, is the guest of France Bleu Alsace this Tuesday.

Deprived of fairs! Alsatian children see their end-of-year school celebrations canceled a few days before the event. According to information from France Bleu Alsace, the rectorate has issued instructions which strongly advise against holding fairs, due to the security context. For the departmental co-secretary of the FSU-SNUIPP in Bas-Rhin, Jonathan Welschinger, **”**it generates debates in establishments, in schools, at the level of teaching teams, at the level of families“.

This is linked to the Vigipirate plan which is at emergency attack level. Except that the Strasbourg academy is the only one in France, for the moment, concerned, according to the FSU-SNUIPP. “Perhaps it is also linked to the fact that half of the police forces in the Strasbourg area will be in Paris for the Olympic Games, from mid-June.“, he says.

Projects in danger?

He regrets that there is “no written and formal request from the rectorate or the prefecture“, speaking of transmitted messages”orally“, which leaves responsibility for the decision to the directors”which may be misunderstood by families“. According to him, “this poses a problem in terms of the social bond between the school and families while the ministry keeps highlighting this special bond that we must have with families, and there, we cancel special moments“.

In Haut-Rhin, the same oral instructions seem to have been passed. In the Bas-Rhin, schools will adapt their end-of-year party, sometimes just with the parents, sometimes without the parents. “It was said that the festivals could be held if the municipalities secured the surrounding areas, with the presence of municipal police officers, security agents, so it will be at the discretion of the communities.“, explains Jonathan Welschinger.

He adds that these fairs represent “a Source of financing for many projects during the school year green class, artistic activities, cultural outings, cinema, shows“. He is worried about the “weakening of certain projects already scheduled for next year“.
