The personalities of the accused were detailed for the start of the trial which is being held this week at the Pau assizes. A mother and her son are on trial for murder and acts of torture and barbarity. She is 53 years old and he is 22 years old. They are suspected of having killed Renaud Leprince whose body was discovered on October 16, 2020 in Pau near Parc Beaumont, in an apartment on Avenue Léon Say. The mother and son continued to blame each other again this Monday.

Drug addictions

Sofiane Triboulet declares with a certain lucidity that the roles are reversed between his mother and him: “There is a very strong bond between my mother and me, I had this need to protect her but normally she is the adult.” On the stand, this son spoke of his drug use, cocaine and cannabis. In 2020, the year of the murder, he admits that he smoked between five and six joints a day.

The accused grew up in a difficult and sometimes violent environment. He never knew his father, his mother was incarcerated when he was around nine, he was placed in foster care when he was a teenager. At the age of 17, he himself faced justice, the juvenile court, because he had committed theft. He was convicted again in 2019 for similar charges.

The psychiatric expertise concludes that Sofiane Triboulet does not suffer from any mental illness, that he emotional deficiencies and has not integrated the laws and prohibitions. It is important to emphasize that there is neither alteration nor abolition of discernment therefore he was conscious at the time of the murder and torture of Renaud Leprince of which he is accused. Today of this trial, Sofiane Triboulet explained: “I expect a lot from this trial so that the truth will be clarified.”

Impulsive, antisocial, alcoholic and drug addict

I’m a loudmouth” recognizes Leïla Abaiji who adds “I have never harmed my children or anyone“. By asking other personal questions, the court learned that this woman born in Morocco and aged 53 had already been violent with certain men with whom she had relationships. She confided that her father was violent towards her when she was a child.

Psychiatric expertise reveals an impulsive, antisocial, alcoholic and drug addict personality. Her criminal record shows she has been convicted six timesnotably for thefts and aggravated violence but his memory seems to fail him on certain details.

On the other hand, her tone is very assured when she speaks of her son Sofiane: “It was my darling but today I’m angry with him for accusing me of thathe did something stupid, he doesn’t take responsibility.” The president of the Assize Court reframed: “It’s not stupidity, it’s a crime, a murder preceded by an act of torture and barbarity.”
