A vast drug trafficking network was dismantled in Haute-Savoie on May 20, Bonneville public prosecutor Karline Bouisset announced on Saturday. This operation, which is part of the second phase of Operation Place Net 74, mobilized 174 gendarmes in the departments of Haute-Savoie, Ain and Rhône, reports France 3 Regions.

The search resulted in the seizure of 25 kg of cannabis, 1 kg of cocaine and 650 grams of ecstasy. In addition, 12,900 euros in cash, a Kalashnikov, an assault rifle, a sawed-off shotgun, two long guns and several hundred rounds of ammunition were confiscated. Law enforcement also recovered 16 vehicles, including 5 stolen, as well as several false license plates.

The investigation, carried out by the Chamonix research brigade, the national judicial police unit of Paris and the gendarmerie units of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, led to the arrest of nine individuals. At the end of their custody, six suspects were indicted and four of them incarcerated, while another was placed under judicial supervision.

Karline Bouisset welcomed this operation as a significant stop to drug trafficking in the Arve valley. She also recalled the results of the first Place Net operation last October, which led to the seizure of nearly 200 kg of drugs and more than 100,000 euros.
