Fully restored, the Évaux-les-Bains cinema ready to welcome film buffs from Creuse

New and comfortable red seats, new star-studded carpet and a brand new popcorn machine: the Alpha cinema in Évaux-les-Bains has had a makeover ! After eighteen months of work, the cinema reopened its doors on Friday May 24. The municipality invested more than a million euros to rehabilitate the premises of this cinema, created between the wars. With a new screen and better acoustics, the Alpha cinema is also moving upmarket to offer optimal conditions to spectators.

From the outside, the changes are visible, with a new facade, new colors on the building. “It’s a metamorphosis”, says, all smiles, Nicolas Simmonet, the president of the community of communes “Creuse confluence”. The last renovations dated from 1985 and the conditions for welcoming the public were no longer satisfactory. The 140m² cinema room has been completely redone, with 95 larger red armchairs for greater comfort. A convivial space has also been created in the cinema lobby, where arcade games will be installed in the coming weeks.

The total cost of the work amounts to 1.1 million euros. The rehabilitation of the cinema, decided by the elected officials of “Creuse confluence”, has been carefully considered, assures Nicolas Simmonet, the president of this community of communes: “We had to keep a cinema in Évaux. Questions are being asked about this type of service which is not profitable and costs taxpayers. We had to dust it off, so we made the choice to completely redo it with the help financial partners. We arrive at nearly 80% public subsidies, the maximum authorized aid.”
