The famous restaurant Régis and Jacques Marcon, an institution in Saint-Bonnet-le-Froid (Haute-Loire), crowned with three macaroons in the Michelin guide since 2005, is literally drowning in reservation requests. A record was even broken on May 1. The establishment received 3,000 reservation requests in one hour. Unheard of for the Marcons, although they are accustomed to success.

“We open our schedules six months in advance, every 1st of the month. We know that on that day, there is a peak of activity, especially for reservations in October,” says Régis Marcon. Traditionally, customers appreciate this period even more because it is the mushroom season, one of the house specialties. “But there, we couldn’t believe our eyes. We are overwhelmed,” he continues.

“For your information, for weekends at the gourmet restaurant, out of a total capacity of 2,100 seats per month, there are several hundred emails and online reservations that we receive in the space of a few hours, i.e. thousands of place settings! More than our reception capacity… This makes us happy, but I can understand the frustration or even annoyance of some people in the face of the waiting time”, lament the Marcons, who assure that they are doing everything possible to try to resolve this ” problem of the rich.

“We hired five full-time agents and we no longer take gift vouchers. Despite everything, some people can sometimes wait several years before getting their place at the restaurant,” laments the managers of the three-star restaurant.

Despite the pressure, the house does not want to change its habits. “We want to maintain a good quality/price ratio to remain loyal to our customers and not increase our capacity, which would imply a drop in quality. » You will therefore still have to be patient when sitting down to eat at the Marcon’s.
