A traditional Hindu festival

There Holi celebration comes from a old hindu legend. Once upon a time there was a tyrannical king, Hiranyakashipuwho could not bear that his own son disowned him for preferring him god Vishnull. So he tried by all means to get rid of it. With the help of his sister Holikahe challenged his son by forcing him to lie down in burning embers: the latter not only accepted, but also succeeded in the challenge! Hiranyakashipu was thus humiliated. His son, Prahladwas rewarded by the gods for his loyalty and courage. Holi would then have become the representation of this history, the symbol of this conflict where the goodness prevailed over tyranny. Here’s one reference particularly loved in Indiaand in the rest of the world!
