“The shortage of doctors is intensifying” in Yvelines, worries the Sud-Yvelines public health hospital collective

The Sud-Yvelines public health hospital collective organized a press point, Friday May 24, 2024, to discuss the subject of the lack of general practitioners in the area, with the objective of organizing a round table to find solutions.

“We are seeing great difficulties and great concern on the part of people, more and more of whom do not have a general practitioner and today, the shortage is intensifying,” immediately insists Michel Espinat, member from the Sud-Yvelines public health hospital collective. A concern linked, according to him, to a situation “very problematic, since 14,000 people in Yvelines do not have a treating doctor”.

premium Where is the project to build a hospital in Rambouillet?

In order to tackle the problem and try to find solutions, the collective sent, about three weeks ago, a letter addressed to various stakeholders in the department, including the Regional Health Agency, Véronique Matillon, mayor of Rambouillet or even Thomas Gourlan, president of the Rambouillet Territoires urban community.

“Four months to consult a specialist!”

With one objective: to launch the beginnings of a round table, where everyone could present their arguments and proposals in order to improve the provision of care in the Yvelines department. “We really want to work together with the aim of achieving initiatives that would attract and keep general practitioners in our territory,” develops Michel Espinat.

“Today in Yvelines, it takes around two weeks to get an appointment with a general practitioner, four months to consult a specialist!”

Among the solutions proposed by the Sud-Yvelines public health hospital collective: the creation of a health center. “Houdan, for example, has just opened an unscheduled care center within the hospital, with three doctors and three nurses, so why not also do it in Rambouillet?” he asks.

New in Houdan (Yvelines): an unscheduled care center opens this Monday, February 5

But the collective insists on the difference between a health home, in which caregivers work independently, and the health center, which is attached to a public establishment and which offers more flexibility to doctors, who are employees of the structure. “The health center corresponds much more to the expectations of doctors, since it allows them to only do medicine, to work on the basis of a shared medical file (DMP) when one is absent,” he lists. -he. “There is no excess fee and third-party payment applies, which is also much better for patients.”

Use proximity to the university

The Yvelines department currently has three health centers: Trappes, Sartrouville and Houdan. A virtuous model, according to the collective, which could make it possible to overcome the difficulties experienced by the Yvelines department and the Rambouillet sector. “This is why we want at all costs to move things forward and discuss them with the stakeholders in the department,” continues Dominique Chambon, founder of the Sud-Yvelines public health hospital collective in 2015.

In Rambouillet, caregivers cook with those they care for to escape from their daily lives

The members of the collective raise another point, which according to them could be a lever for optimizing the provision of care. “We are lucky to be in direct proximity, only around twenty kilometers, to the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines medical faculty,” says Michel Espinat.

“We must therefore, from now on, establish contacts with them to encourage doctors to stay on our territory!”

For now, the collective indicates that it has received two responses to the letter addressed to elected officials and health structures asking them to participate in a future round table to discuss the subject. That of the town hall of Maurepas, “which asked us to keep it informed of the continuation of events” and that, “negative”, of the director of the Rambouillet hospital.
